Aston Villa v Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Preview & Trends

There is more than just Midlands bragging rights on offer here as the two old foes do battle once again. Wolves are seeking a return to Europa League action next season whilst Villa are keen to venture there for the first time under Dean Smith. The Villains will fancy themselves to complete the double over Wanderers with a respectable home record this season. A victory for Wolves would be a significant boost for Nuno Espirito Santos’ men and would close the gap between the two rivals to just two points. Having had to spread the goals around since Raul Jiminez’s season-ending skull-fracture, it is actually the defensive side that Wolves are lacking at at present. Their 79% conceding rate is a massive 25% higher than that of Aston Villa who in the absence of skipper Jack Grealish will look to the increasingly prolific Ollie Watkins to maintain their 82% scoring rate. An interesting contest awaits us with Villa looking to bounce back after a surprise loss to basement side Sheffield United and Wolves coming off a 4-1 thumping from table toppers Manchester City.

Key trends

Aston Villa have averaged 1.82 goals scored per match at home which is fairly close to the average goals that Wolves concede per away match in 1.64.

So far this season in Premier League, Aston Villa have picked up an average of 1.45 Points Per Game in their 11 matches played at home

Wolverhampton Wanderers’s average Points Per Game in their 14 away games is 1.07.
