Croatia v Scotland Match Preview & Trends
Can Scots finally score to progress?
Steve Clarke will have to conjure a goal from somewhere if his side are to reach the knockout phase. Having so far drawn blanks against Czech Republic and England, Scotland need to win and therefore has to find a way of scoring to qualify. Croatia also need a victory to get through the group which sets up an intriguing contest at Hampden Park as they have never been victorious against the Scots.
Croatia are a possession-based side who averaged over 61% in the qualifying campaign. This is no surprise with the world-class midfielders they possess in Captain Modric and Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic. In qualification, they were uncharacteristically shot-shy and managed to achieve just a 33% on target average which will need to improve if they are to progress.
Croatia covered 197.8km in the opening two rounds and have maintained a passing accuracy of 84% and averaging 49% possession. The Croats have made 62 passes into the attacking third with 24 of those in key areas. They have completed 6/31 crosses, which left them at 19%. In comparison, Scotland has covered 214.8km in the first two games, maintaining a passing accuracy of 79% and averaged 48% possession. The Scots made 63 passes into the attacking third with 38 of those in key areas. They completed 12/38 crosses, which left them at 32%.
Key trends
