Finland v Belgium Match Preview & Trends
Can Belgium ‘Finnish’ undefeated?
The return of Kevin De Bruyne boosted Belgium in their victory over Denmark and after his winning goal secured qualification, he will be pushing for a start in round 3. Roberto Martinez may wish to freshen up his lineup and utilize some of his rich array of talents now the pressure is off.
Having qualified behind Italy, Finland will not fear Belgium despite losing to Russia and although they are not a prolific side, striker Teemu Pukki has proven that he can score regularly at this level. The Norwich City forward netted 10 goals in qualifying and will be a threat again in this tournament. Finland were ranked 20th in terms of possession percentage, and 18th for corners during the qualifying campaign and have a blend of youth and experience in their squad.
Finland covered 212.8km in the opening two rounds and have maintained a passing accuracy of 76% and averaging 40% possession. The Finns have made 40 passes into the attacking third with 26 of those in key areas. They have completed 5/15 crosses, which left them at 33%. In comparison, Belgium has covered 220.8km in the first two games, maintaining a passing accuracy of 88% and averaged 58% possession. The Belgians made 60 passes into the attacking third with 30 of those in key areas which is an impressive 50% ratio, however, they have failed to execute a single cross from 11 attempts so far.
