Hungary v France Match Preview & Trends
World Champions can qualify with a second victory
After impressing against Portugal for the best part of 85 minutes, Hungary know they have the capability to compete with the best. Having held out the European champions for so long before a late collapse, they now face the World champions France. The French were successful against Germany thanks to Matts Hummels’ own goal and will be keen to build on that success and seal their progression to the knockout phase with a game to spare.
The French have an extremely strong squad at their disposal and could field an eleven worthy of competing at the tournament made up from those not selected. Losing in the final to Portugal at Euro 2016 will spur them on to go one better this time around but first they must tackle a robust and efficient German side. Negotiating the group of death in rounds two and three will be no easy task and Didier Deschamp will know that any mistake could be catastrophic for his team despite beating the Germans already.
Hungary covered 109km against the Portuguese and maintained a passing accuracy of 78% having gained 39% possession. The Hungarian’s made 13 passes into the attacking third with 7 of those in key areas. They completed 3/9 crosses, which left them at 33%. In comparison, when France faced Germany, they covered 109km against the Germans and maintained a passing accuracy of 85% having gained 42% possession. The French made 21 passes into the attacking third with 12 of those in key areas. They completed 1/6 crosses, which left them at 17%.
