Brentford v Arsenal Match Predictions & Trends
Frank aiming to prove The Bees belong
Friday night football kicks off the first game of the 2021/22 Premier League Season as Arsenal travel to newly-promoted Brentford. Having won the play-off final against Swansea City at Wembley, Thomas Frank will believe that his players are more than ready for the big occasion but this will be a big step-up in quality and a significant test for his squad in the opening fixture.
The 47-year-old Dane suffered heartache, losing the 2019/20 play-off final to Fulham in his first full season in charge after Dean Smith’s departure to Aston Villa. The ex-Brondby boss was able to turn things around and maintain a steady promotion battle which saw them triumph at Wembley in the summer to become the Premier League’s 50th club.
Mikel Arteta needs a solid start to the season after last year’s disappointing 8th place finish. The Gunners’ boss will be feeling the pressure after such a low finish and knows any repeat of that will probably cost him his job. With fans back in the stadiums, this will be a real test of the Spaniard’s managerial credentials.
Last season, Arsenal gained a respectable 33 points from 19 away games and actually had the third-best defense in the league. Their patchy home let them down with a series of 0-1 losses costing them dearly. This was supplemented with a lack of goals. The normally attack-minded North-London side managed just 55 goals in their 38 Premier League games.
