Chelsea v Aston Villa Match Predictions & Trends
Stubborn Villa can cause European Champions problems
There will be no Jack Grealish or even his replacement, Emanuel Buendia but Dean Smith still has multiple attacking options which can hurt the home side. Villa travel to Stamford Bridge to face a Chelsea side that looks defensively assured and filled with their own attacking prowess. On paper, this should be a really entertaining contest.
After picking a thigh strain upon winning his 100th cap for Belgium, Romelu Lukaku is a doubt for the Blues so we could see German striker Timo Werner lead the line. After selling Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham this summer, there is a lot of emphasis on the former RB Leipzig forward to deliver goals this season.
With Buendia in quarantine, Danny Ings will be the focus of the Villa attack once more. Since his arrival from Southampton, the England striker has been in fine form and will now have fellow international Ollie Watkins to support him after his return to fitness. Smith also welcomes back, captain Tyrone Mings after a recent rib injury disrupted his early-season momentum.
Villa won the last league match between these two clubs back in May last year whilst Chelsea have won two out of the last five meetings and there has been one draw in that period. Chelsea have been leading at half-time in all of their home games this season whilst Villa have been behind in 100% of their fixtures at the interval.
