Austria v Northern Macedonia Match Preview & Trends

Austrians Seek Maiden Victory At Euros

The head-to-head record between these two nations is limited to just two previous encounters which were both in qualifying for this tournament back in 2019 and were both won by Austria. Even though they lost a recent friendly to England, going down 1-0 to Bakayo Saka’s solitary goal in a 1-0 defeat, coach Franco Foda will be confident his team can make an impact in the group.

In Aleksander Dragovic, Marko Arnautovic, and Valentino Lazaro they have the quality to complement versatile squad members such as Eintracht Frankfurt’s Stefan Ilsanker and push for their first-ever European Championship victory. Their previous best was a draw with Poland in 2008 and holding the eventual winners Portugal level during the 2016 tournament. Austria failed to get past the group stages on both occasions.

Having beaten mighty Germany in a recent World Cup qualifier, Northern Macedonia will not be phased by the tough group they find themselves in for this prestigious tournament. With the likes of Leeds United’s Ezgjan Alioski and the vastly experienced Goran Pandev in their ranks, the Northern Macedonians will fancy their chances against Austria in Romania at the National Arena Bucharest.

Key trends
