Portugal v Germany Match Preview & Trends

Low determined not to crash out early

Departing Germany coach Joachim Low will be feeling the pressure after losing to France in round 1. Things do not get any easier for his side as they move from facing the World champions to taking on the current European champions with Cristaino Ronaldo in fine form. Germany have a mix of youth within their ranks and will be counting on the experience of Toni Kroos and Matts Hummels amongst others to rlly the troops.

Portugal are far more than just Cristiano Ronaldo but having one of the greatest to ever play the game as your captain is certainly a help. Their inspirational record-breaker scored 11 goals in qualifying and will not just want to lift the Henri Delaunay trophy again but will inevitably have an eye on the golden boot as well. Having qualified behind the Ukraine, coach Fernando Santos will know that nothing but the best from his star-studded squad will do for every fixture in order to progress.

Portugal covered 105.2km against the Hungarians and maintained a passing accuracy of 89% having gained 65% possession. The Portuguese made 72 passes into the attacking third with 36 of those in key areas. They completed 4/23 crosses, which left them at 17%. In comparison, when Germany faced France, they covered 113.6km against the French and maintained a passing accuracy of 89% having gained 58% possession. The Germans made 71 passes into the attacking third with 45 of those in key areas. They completed 7/29 crosses, which left them at 24%.
